Bhai Kanhaiya ji

• Bhai Kanhaiya, a disciple of Sikh Guru Gobind Singh, initiated the concept of first aid, medical assistance and protection to the wounded in the battlefield about 200 years ago
• He served water and provided first aid not only to the wounded Sikh soldiers, but also to those of the enemy
• Sir Henry Dunant adopted the same concept later during the war of Solferino in 1859 and it became the basis for the Red Cross movement
• Now, the SGPC and the DSGMC, besides Punjab Government, want the International Committee of Red Cross to recognise and register the services of the philanthropist in its charter and literature
